Plant Manager

A plant manager oversees a manufacturing facility’s production operations on a day-to-day basis and is ultimately responsible for ensuring the facility functions effectively. They also make sure that the required safety procedures are adhered to and that production goals are met.
The role requires spending a large amount of time in the office but also, as conditions require, on the plant floor. It is vital to have extensive knowledge of the whole plant operation and to develop strong motivational and leadership skills to manage employees.
Some of the key duties in the position are to ensure the budget is kept under control and to see that it complies with the company’s standard practices, to confer with senior management and ensure that objectives are being met, and to make long- and short-term plans in an effort to increase the profitability and efficiency of the plant.
A plant manager generally requires a degree in a field like industrial engineering or business management. Some companies prefer to promote an experienced production worker to this position. The position pays well, with C
$65,000 being the lowest starting salary, and can climb in excess of C
$100,000.
