Operator

An operator in the manufacturing industry needs to be able to maintain, repair and run machines in plants and factories. They are also required to set up equipment, monitor it to see that it is running correctly, and then dismantle it when it is no longer required. Operators work across a range of industries, from clothing to food.
Companies will usually require an operator to have a high school diploma as well as previous experience, such as on the job training or an apprenticeship. Knowledge of inspection and test procedures will make a candidate more attractive to an employer, as will logical thinking, the ability to learn quickly and a willingness to teach others.
As well as setting up machines and adjusting them to work at the correct speed, people in this role may be required to make repairs and ensure that everything runs smoothly. They may also work with quality control managers and other personnel involved in production to improve processes. An average salary is C
$48,000 per year.
