Microbiology

Microbiologists fulfil a vital role in their study of viruses, fungi, bacteria, yeasts, protozoa, algae, and other living organisms unable to be viewed by the naked eye. This career field also frequently includes immunology work, which deals with aspects of the immune system. As only one percent of all of earth's tiniest organisms have already been examined, there remains much work to be done.
Laboratory and research work are large components of this career, which involves many examinations of microscopic species using microscopes, computers, glass tubes, centrifuges, and other magnifying devices. Many professionals also choose to work in fields specialising in specific types of microscopic species, such as bacteriology, mycology, virology, or parasitology.
A doctoral degree was once a requirement to become a microbiologist, and is still necessary for most research and teaching positions. However, many jobs in this field only require Bachelors or Masters degrees, especially in the public health, agriculture, and industry fields. Some professionals in this field have medical degrees, as well as doctoral degrees. The average microbiologist salary is nearly C
$49,000.
