Medical Secretary

Medical secretaries are usually employed by doctors, hospitals or clinics. Employees need knowledge of medical terminology as well as medical practices. Applicants should also understand insurance procedures.
This job position may require employees to work at the front desk performing duties such as answering telephones and providing customer service. Core responsibilities include scheduling appointments and registering clients. Employees may also be asked to transcribe recordings that are made by doctors.
Computer work is an essential part of this position and knowledge of software programmes is also highly beneficial. Data entry tasks are completed by medical secretaries to update patient records and pass information between healthcare facilities. Employees are also responsible for administrative duties such as copying, filing and faxing.
Candidates for this position are required to have excellent time management, organisational and interpersonal skills. Communication skills are essential when dealing with patients and other staff members, as is a sensitive and discrete manner. Salaries are in the range of C
$20 to C
$23 an hour; however, this is dependent by the applicant’s educational qualifications and experience.
