A marketing director plays a vital role in the promotion of a company’s products to the general public. They will be responsible for a vast array of areas, such as exploring innovative ways to market a product, writing and editing press releases and taking part in media interviews.
It is essential that the marketing director works with the organisation’s business objectives and closely follows the company’s mission statement. Main tasks will include ensuring that the media are updated regarding the latest product developments, promotions or launches, and attempting to deflect negative press. They will handle and oversee all press materials, as well as take on a management role.
The role of the job holder requires an organised and analytical approach. The job holder should be confident, innovative and capable of solving problems. Most organisations will expect applicants to possess the minimum of a Bachelors degree in marketing or a related field. The most successful applicants will possess a Masters degree in addition to at least five years’ experience in a supervisory position and/or a marketing role.
