Working in maintenance requires the job holder to be able to carry out routing and extensive work in the general upkeep and repair of facilities, equipment and buildings under general supervision. The role involves executing tasks within established procedures and work under both written and verbal instructions.
Working in the role could see the job holder performing repair or general upkeep work of buildings, facilities, equipment and grounds at various sites including carpentry, electrical, masonry, plumbing and painting. Repairing and treating anything from showers and sinks to walls and roofs can be expected.
Other tasks can involve making minor repairs, adjusting locks, troubleshooting, fixing door hinges, changing ventilating, air conditioning and heating filters and cleaning plugged key slots. More heavy duty work may also be required such as helping in the transportation of equipment and furniture, as well as breaking down and setting up cubicle partitions.
A valid driver’s license and high school education are preferred. It is important to be able to efficiently use various hand and power tools, to communicate both efficiently and fluently in oral and written form, and to be able to work well in a team. Average salary for a maintenance supervisor is C
$54,000 and for a building maintenance worker C
$28,500.
