Maintenance Supervisor
The maintenance supervisor plays a key role in ensuring that maintenance and service functions are conducted properly in a facility. The position holder must have administrative and organizational expertise to effectively manage a team. The work usually takes place at automobile service centres, manufacturing units or other residential and commercial facilities.
The role will require at least basic knowledge in a number of different areas including heating, plumbing, electrical work, refrigeration and cooling in order to direct others. In some cases, it may be necessary for the supervisor to perform some of the tasks.
Key responsibilities include keeping a record of service and maintenance activities conducted, planning work shifts for employees, recruitment and evaluation of maintenance staff performances, complying with the industry’s safety procedures and regulations, and interacting with various departments to ensure that all systems in the facility are in full working order.
In general, experience working in facilities maintenance is required or journeyman status in a particular labour field in order to fill the role of maintenance supervisor. The starting salary is around C
$44,000 which can rise as high as C
$67,000 after time in the position.
