Litigation

Litigation is the process of taking a legal case through the court, where there is usually a plaintiff that is, the one who is accusing, and a defendant, the one who has been accused. As such, it is the job of a lawyer specialising in this area to represent these parties. Also known as trial lawyers, litigators will do everything they can to make sure their client wins the case or at least manages to attain the most favourable outcome
Litigation involves a great deal of research as the lawyers must acquaint themselves with every detail pertaining to the case. A thorough knowledge of common law, legislative history and statutes is essential as is the ability to use databases to find relevant information on which to construct a case
The ability to write and speak well is also essential. Trial lawyers are extremely confident and very discreet, with excellent interpersonal skills. The job requires legal training and experience. Salaries vary according to experience, but average around £50,000 per year.
