Journeyman Electrician

A journeyman electrician, or master electrician, is skilled in both installing and maintaining electrical fittings and equipment. The job holder must implement the electrical specifications which electrical engineers define in a home or building construction project. The role requires working both indoors and outdoors.
Some of the key responsibilities involved are installing outlet terminations and electrical wiring while maintaining electrical appliances and motors. The job holder must be able to inspect electrical installations, install electrical cabling and perform repairs. It may be the case that they are trained in order to perform structured network cabling.
If working in factories, the role may involve repairing electrical and motorized equipment. Someone in the position can perform the same tasks as an electrical engineer except for designing electrical systems.
To begin a career towards becoming a journeyman electrician, graduating from high school is sufficient. It is necessary to take an apprenticeship under someone accredited in the role and to take vocational classes in various subjects such as blueprint reading and national electric code. Roughly 150 classroom hours and 2,000 hours on-the-job training takes around three to five years. The average salary for someone qualified in the role is C
$65,000.
