The position of industrial engineer is often open to new graduates. Candidates who have completed university, technical training and college, vocational or CEGEP training have the necessary skill requirements for entry to the job.
Work as an industrial engineer is fast-paced, highly pressured and requires intricate attention to detail as well as the ability to work to tight deadlines. The ability to use a computer and being proficient in critical thinking, decision-making and working with others are important, as is and excellent writing skills.
Knowledge and experience with SPC, Lean Six Sigma, Work Measurement, AutoCAD, MS Office and database management are the preferred competencies. Strong leadership skills with good self-motivation and interpersonal skills are expected.
Compensation for the role is generally around C
$50,790 for qualified engineers and up to C
$66,500, excluding bonuses, for senior candidates. The role is carried out in manufacturing plants and travelling to other plants may be required.
