A handyman is a skilled craftsman who specializes in performing a number of different odd jobs such as maintaining property, carrying out repairs and performing renovations as required.
Those skilled in the role will be responsible for carrying out repairs in businesses and private homes when needed. General tasks involve performing renovations on properties, clearing and repairing units within apartment complexes between occupancies, and maintaining and general upkeep like clearing drainpipes and painting.
The qualified handyman will answer to emergency calls from either business management or directly from residents themselves. At times the job holder may be required to put bids in on jobs outside the project’s budget or which are not suitable. Here, the person in the role will need to communicate the budget which the management has outlined and effectively manage the contractors and contracts by saving all necessary invoices and receipts for processing.
The role carries an average salary of C
$29,528 in Canada. There are not normally any educational requirements; however, a high school diploma may be preferred. Flexibility is important, particularly on weekends and at night as there are no set schedules. Generally, overtime can be expected.
