Food Service Worker
The role of a food service worker requires the ability to provide a varied range of skills, including taking customer orders, preparing simple food items, heating and finishing dishes, using manual implements and electrical appliances to prepare foodstuffs, and safely wrapping and storing foods. The food service worker fills a multi-faceted role that has at its core the need to ensure customers have their needs attended to in a professional and courteous manner.
Work will generally also involve handling cash and credit card payments, seating customers, clearing tables, cleaning counters, tables and work surfaces, replenishing condiments and table supplies, and monitoring supplies and stock. Work typically requires considerable time standing, as well as the ability to handle regular periods of high-volume business.
Roles will generally require English or French fluency. Some will require or benefit from the ability to speak other languages. Pay is usually by hourly wage, with rates varying between C
$9 and C
$20. A median rate of C
$10 is generally to be found.
