The role of an electrical or electronic engineer includes the responsibility for building and the maintenance of electrical components and systems, as well as the design. Working with architects, civil engineers, IT staff and engineering technicians, the candidate will be required to explain, plan and follow through on those plans. Testing systems, ensuring they meet safety requirements and writing reports will also be required.
With exceptional technology, science and maths skills, the electronic engineer should have good budgetary, planning, people and team-work skills. A degree in electronic or electrical engineering is required and knowledge of nanotechnology, mechatronics, software engineering, physics and applied physics as well as building services engineering is of benefit.
Trainees and newly qualified technicians can expect a salary of around C
$28,500 to C
$38,500, while an average income of around C
$60,000 for experienced engineers and between C
$65,000 and C
$82,500 for chartered or senior engineers can be expected.
