Design Engineer
The design engineer will have at least three to five years’ experience in the design field, with a portfolio of detailed drawings and SODA. Generally, there is employment in Cambridge, although Vancouver is bucking the trend. The engineer will design specific and specialized engineering products, evaluate the drawings, analyze the structural components and assist in creating products such as BAB walls or SANDIA bridge.
Being a leader to design engineers and technicians means people skills and excellent communication is required. The educational requirements include a PEng designation and at least a BSc in Civil Engineering. A strong background in 3D modelling design using software such as Solidworks and AutoCAD is preferred.
The design engineer will be able to present to management and corporate clients well, both verbally and in written context, as well as have hands-on experience to communicate their designs to people of differing levels of knowledge.
Excluding any bonuses or profit sharing, a person in this role typically earns an average of C
$60,000, depending on experience and location, and usually incurs benefits, a pension.
