Providing help to consumers is an essential component of every major company, and the customer service agent performs this duty. The job varies depending on the type of business, but the fundamentals are the same. Good communication and organization skills are important to this position, which requires satisfying customers when they have a problem.
A customer service representative can work with clients over the phone, through the internet or in person. They obtain information, keep track of data and provide solutions befitting the problem. Good people skills are essential since most customers are in contact because they are not satisfied. Attention to detail, patience and listening skills are also necessary.
A high school diploma is often all that is needed to get into this occupation though basic competency in subjects like mathematics, English and speaking skills are highly desired. An ability to type and use a computer, and knowledge of the company’s products will increase the chances of success in this job. Most companies pay by the hour, with pay averaging at C
$10 per hour.
