Customer Service Representative

A customer service representative is a general term for anyone who acts as a connection between a company and its customers. This role can involve answering phones at a call centre or working as a sales person on a showroom floor. There are myriad variations of this occupation but all require excellent personal skills.
Whatever company the position holder works under, it is imperative that the representative has extensive knowledge of the company and its products. This is typically part of the training once hired, so employers look for applicants with a strong background in communication and organization.
Often a high school diploma is all the education needed since companies are often able to train new employees. Instead of degrees they look for eagerness, a positive attitude, a calm head and excellent oral and written communication skills. It helps to know how to use a computer as well.
These jobs can pay by the hour or on a salary basis. Hourly rates average around C
$12, while a starting salary is around C
$24,000.
