With the continuing evolution of the computer, the opportunities for employment in the IT industry are expanding all the time. IT professionals are an integral part of most modern companies. People working on the technical or operations side of IT in most firms are involved with its day-to-day operations as well as sales, purchasing and marketing departments.
Experienced computer professionals in Canada working in roles ranging from help desk operatives right through to IT development managers contribute to a company’s reputation and its smooth running. Internet and web developers are often responsible for how the company is perceived in the cyber world.
Canadian IT professionals may find themselves working for a manufacturer, a service industry provider, a military or local government department, or a financial institution. Developers and programmers employed in technical support roles are expected to be versed in the relevant programs and applications to enable them to bring new systems to fruition.
A good proportion of jobs are in cities and urban areas such as Vancouver or Quebec City. People working as computer operators can expect annual salaries of about C
$35,000, while somebody in a more technically demanding role such as software engineer might be paid C
$87,000 a year.
