The position of corporate compliance officer involves ensuring a company’s activities comply with both government legislative regulations and inter-company policies at all departmental levels. Compliance officers deal with trade union representatives and business and client issues at a high level and can be involved in monitoring quality, cost and delivery targets in manufacturing companies. In banks and financial service providers, the position involves ensuring all governance internal control and risk-avoidance structures are in place according to government and international legal rulings.
Compliance executives deal with everything from workers’ rights in everyday situations to money-laundering regulations, identifying risks and analyzing solutions. Applicants will need to demonstrate strong interpersonal communications skills and extensive knowledge in the relevant field. In the banking sector, experience of information and privacy laws, legislative compliance management and all relevant regulations is essential, and in all sectors employers will expect leadership ability and the combination of a degree and work experience.
The salary for the position will vary along with the sector and size of the company and the job description, and may be influenced by the applicant’s experience and qualifications. Expect a range from C
$55,000 to over C
$195,000, with the banking sector paying the most and offering more positions.
