Public organizations, individual taxpayers and businesses all across Canada depend on certified general accountants (Cga) to provide expert services in regards to financial reporting, taxes, industry financial standards, regulatory requirements and internal policies.
The primary duty of these individuals is to ensure that their employer is in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles via the application of auditing standards to the organization’s daily accounting functions.
Those wishing to work in this field in Canada will need to acquire certification from Cga Canada, which has three main requirements: practical work experience, a degree requirement and an academic component. Unlike other accounting certifications, candidates can enter the program anytime while pursuing a degree and the degree can be in any field.
Salaries for those holding this certification vary as many move into managerial positions after several years of experience. Entry-level posts generally start around C
$35,000 a year and those moving into senior level positions can earn more than C
$75,000.
