Assistant Teacher
The role of the assistant teacher is to support the teacher inside and outside the classroom. The primary function of this role is to free up more time for the qualified teacher to plan and conduct lessons. Most of the time, people in this position are usually training to become teachers themselves, and so they work on a part-time basis to gain classroom experience. In some cases, high school graduates will be hired as teaching assistants, but candidates with a degree are preferred.
The main duties are to help the teacher in the classroom by instructing the students on activities and assignments once the teacher has finished with the teaching aspect of the lesson. The job holder also provides administrative support for the teacher, including monitoring the progress of students. Playground duty or looking after children on school trips may also be required.
The job requires enthusiasm and the ability to follow instructions. It is rewarding work and can provide vital experience. The average salary is C
