Aerospace, which concerns itself with the design, manufacture and operation of vehicles through air and space, provides a large number of openings in the industrial, commercial and military sectors. Canada’s aerospace industry has earned itself worldwide respect and admiration for its cutting-edge technology and competitive costs, and the country is renowned for its civil and military aircraft, defence systems and flight simulators.
There are some 400 aerospace firms in Canada which provide jobs for 82,000 people. Training standards in Canada are good, with 20 universities offering relevant engineering degrees. Training providers in Toronto include Ryerson University, York University and the University of Toronto. Ottawa University and Concordia University in Quebec also offer suitable programmes.
Engineers are in particular demand and graduate employment is high.
New starters in this field can expect to earn around C
$46,000, with C
$55,000 possible in Toronto. Managerial roles, such as project manager, offer salaries in the region of C
$68,000 to C
$95,000.
