Administration ensures an organisation works efficiently, so those pursuing a career in it must be highly efficient individuals with an ability to multi-task. The demand for qualifications in this role is dependent on factors such as the size of the company, the responsibilities involved, and the sector, but optimally, the candidate should have either a degree or diploma in business/public administration or secretarial studies.
The majority of the work will be performed on a computer, so the employee must be proficient with well-known software packages such as Microsoft Office and Excel. The duties include producing correspondence and documents, and adding new data to spreadsheets and databases. Paper documents must be filed according to the office filing system. Other duties include taking minutes in meetings, setting up meetings and conferences, and managing office supplies such as stationary.
Usually the salary for this job is between C
$27,000 to C
$51,000 per year depending on the size of the company and the responsibilities involved.
