Actuarial

Actuarial careers in the finance and insurance industries deal with assessing risks by using statistical and mathematical methods. Most people who work in this field are known as actuaries. They may act as consultants or do more complex financial work for insurance companies, pension companies, or investment banks
A key skill is the use of a variety of statistical and financial theories to determine the odds of specific events taking place and the determining of the financial cost if a particular event does occur. The specific events may include changing weather patterns or accident rates for specific groups
Regular tasks include presenting reports on findings, developing new financial products, developing systems with help from information technology professionals, and giving investment strategy advice. Senior actuaries also supervise other staff members. Most professionals in this field must first pass several rigorous examinations and possess university degrees in actuarial mathematics or science. However, those with degrees in statistics, finance, engineering, or other related subjects should have no problems entering the profession. Salaries begin between £25,000 and £35,000, but senior staff can earn more than £100,000.
