The position of accounting manager is the top job in corporate accounts departments, with its core responsibility that of reporting to the company director and its senior executives on all aspects of the company’s accounting procedures.
The manager organises and schedules all the department’s specialised accounting functions and analyses all procedures and cost controls on a regular basis. New regulations and laws are assessed and changes suggested. Operating cost viability and other statistics are evaluated and all relevant data is assessed and passed on as reports.
The position demands a high level of expertise and experience as well as the ability to research, suggest and incorporate changes where necessary. Personal skills are necessary as the accounting manager holds full responsibility for the accounts department and its staff, with evaluation of staff performance and training of new employees under the manager’s supervision. Absolute discretion and appositive response to stress is also important. Extensive experience in related fields, a degree in accountancy and professional qualifications are standard requirements for applicants.
Dependent on the size of the company, accounting manager salaries run from approximately C
$45,000 to C
$87,000. Profit sharing schemes and bonus payments are included.
